Attended a Muslim sisters-only convention last weekend and I was so happy to see and hear Mufti Menk’s lectures (not 1 but 2 sessions). If you don’t know who is Mufti Menk, google it. You will find his website, official instagram, videos and audios of his lectures. Everytime I listened to his lectures, I feel motivated and want to improve myself spiritually. Masya Allah! May Allah grant goodness to him and his family.
On another note, I would like to highlight a norm of our eagerness to attend such lectures/seminars/kuliah and met prominent speakers. The intention is to gain knowledge. Yes, but what’s the outcome? What do we do after attending such occasion? To me, attending a lecture is like attending a class; the different is it’s just a day class with a bunch of people you unfamiliar with. I would take notes and what’s next? Make further research of the topic, clarify if the information given by speaker is correct or not and gain more knowledge of the topic. And InshaAllah, I’ll share the information here for our benefit.
Oh but before that, can I tell you that I feel proud to see all Muslim sisters from all around the world, regardless their skin colours, background and races gathered in one place to seek knowledge just like me. Some – I can feel their positive aura and good energy. I wish people surrounding will feel the same about me too. Amin~
Onto the lectures summary, shall we?
Daughters are special – by Mufti Ismail Menk
Allah bless him, you can see his video on this topic through Youtube. Just type and walla… the video will appears.
Now ladies, while listening do take note on the family inheritance for the female. There is a reason why male gets more portion than us, female. Indeed, Allah is Just to all mankind.
‘I found my path, have you?’ – Nurhafsah Hamid
She shared her journey in practising Islam and her struggles to follow path of the Quran and Sunnah. There are 3 important questions to ask ourselves and the answers are only between you and Allah.
1. Who am I?
2. Who do you want to be?
3. How do I get there? – For this question, she suggest us to go back to basic. Learn the Quran, find out the meanings, find verses about women and apply to our life. Don’t forget to learn the Sunnah too; the teaching our our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Also, always ask questions. Haha… this one I always do. For instance; How best to handle this situation?
In the footsteps of our Prophet – Norjunaidah Abdullah (JoAnne Pare Abdullah)
She asked us to always re-do intention and have good thoughts on whatever Allah has set for us. She also addressed on wearing proper clothes for Muslimah.
Proud to be a Muslimah – Sheikhah Wafaa Mohd Hussain Yee
She took us to learn about our 25 prophets and elaborate each of them. Do you know that Prophet Idris was a professional tailor? And he was the only human being who not died on earth… but heaven. Masya Allah! Because of time constraint, she suggests us to read more on all prophets.
I studied about these when I was in primary school but maybe I studied for the sake of exam. But this time, I want to re-learn about them and I will share it here so that we can feel awwww….. our forefathers were cool and advance back then.
Can Muslim Women survive the 21st Century? – Dr Harlina Halizah Hj Siraj
The answer is: Yes, we can. By following the straight path. She explained on definition of women scientifically and suggested the 21st Century women to be Reformist (Muslihah). It is to defines justice/right or wrong based on the Quran and Sunnah, advocates social justice and be proud to wear hijab. It is our identity and symbol of submission to Allah, but very open and inclusive. She recommended a book by Dr. Zeenath Kautsar – Muslim Women at the Crossroads.
Gems of belief in the Hereafter – Mufti Ismail Menk
Again, my favourite speaker. Just type the topic and you can see his video or listen to the audio. He highlighted on Rukun Islam, Rukun Iman and Ihsan. My favourite lecture by far and I will download this topic later. Towards the end of his lecture, he mentioned of two important things. As if he knows my current condition, he said to have patience (sabr) and don’t become too excited with what we have/get and don’t become too depressed with what we don’t have/get. I was touched upon hearing this and I believe that the messages comes from Allah through him.
Now, let me share with you few gems that I picked up from this conference:
– Do whatever you believe beneficial to you and then leave it to Allah.
– Don’t be lazy! (Ouch!)
– You can serve to mankind/creatures but worship only to Allah
– Live your life in a beautiful way
– Do not be complacent. Always be on your guard.
– Finding path is struggle but to be on the path is much bigger struggle
– Choose friends well/wisely; and last but not least…
– Smile… (it’s the simplest Sunnah that you can follow)

So, let me do my homework and will share with you here, InshaAllah.
I would like to share another gem from Mufti Menk (taken from FB TheStraightPathConvention). I like this the most!
“If you want to change then make that intention right here and right now before you get up from your seats. Don’t even say I will change when I walk through that door! Change must happen now and if delayed it may never happen!”
